Chain of Command-The new section of the Chain for our department is the Support Staff, including the Public Information Officer (carries the rank of Assistant Chief). This Staff is SEPARATE from the Command Staff which includes the Chief, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Captains, Lieutenants, and firefighters and answers directly to the Chief.
Races-The race season is beginning. Our departments provide services to Mid-Way Raceway and I-44 Speedway. We also provide services for the Demolition Derby. We will add these dates to the Calendar page. We will need at least two people (one medic and one firefighter) for each race to provide coverage. Ideally, we would like to have at least two of each on hand, just in case.
Calls (Chief can’t run them all!)-Chief works nights. Many of you have full-time jobs. PLEASE make an effort to run calls, fire AND medical, if you are available and especially if you are the closest responder. We are a fire family and need to help and support each other’s efforts.
Active911 use and availability-If you do not know how to use/read the parts of the Active911 app, please see an officer for instruction. PLEASE mark yourself accurately in Active911. It alerts your fellow firefighters to your status as well as Laclede County.
Running Code (when NOT to, especially)-You do NOT run code on every single MEDICAL call. We don’t run code for stubbed toes, being stuck in the toilet, smashed fingers, rescuing cats from trees, non-emergency lift assists, medical alarms with no other information, outside smoke investigation, etc. In other words, if lives are NOT directly in danger, you do NOT need to run code. The public does have the right to voice their opinion to the departments if they feel a firefighter is running code in an incorrect or dangerous way.
Officers and firefighters have tasks to handle for the department-To reiterate, many on the departments have full-time jobs. There are tasks which need to be completed for the departments, so we need to complete any tasks we are assigned. If you have any questions or are having difficulty completing your assigned tasks, please see the next officer up in your chain of command.
IS Courses-ALL officers and firefighters have mandatory FEMA Independent Study courses they MUST complete, including the IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800. If you are having difficulty completing the courses independently, please let us know and we will arrange an in-seat training for the courses.
Required training and attendance to training-All officers and firefighters are required to complete Introduction to Fire (previously known as Basic Firefighting). It is recommended, if you’d like further training, for you to complete Firefighter I and Firefighter II, as well as Emergency Medical Responder and CPR.
Shirts/Hats-As we roll out the new uniforms with the new departments logo, we are beginning with the shirts for the officers. Until you receive your new uniforms, please continue to use the shirts you already have. The new hats are also being ordered. Prices for each will be provided at meetings.
PPE bags from Camden County EMA-Camden County Emergency Management Agency has provided Personal Protective Equipment bags from the Office of Homeland Security for our firefighters and officers.
We reviewed the use, interchangeability, and working through common issues with the vehicle extrication equipment in preparation for an upcoming vehicle extrication course.
