July 22 Duty Crew

After a short discussion of how QUIET it’s been (LOL!), we began our very first Apparatus Drills.

Engine 1453 was the subject of the first round of drills. PIO Sam Henley caught the beginning of the drills as Captain John Jutras and Deputy Chief Jack “Bub” Burgess pulled every piece of equipment off of the engine in preparation of testing firefighters’ and officers’ knowledge of where every single item is stored.

Chief Vaughn called everyone out into the Stoutland (Station #2) department’s parking lot and instructed them to put every single piece of equipment back on the engine in the proper compartment and the proper place.

The importance of this training CANNOT be overstated. It is vital for crews to know the trucks and where the equipment is on the trucks not only to move faster extinguishing fires and extricating patients from car accidents, but to ensure good support when we run mutual aid for other departments.

Time to put the equipment back on the engine:

The firefighters and officers did a good job, though there was room for improvement!

Future meetings will provide an opportunity for them to get a walkthrough of the FEMA IS 100, IS 200, IS 700, and IS 800 before they take their tests. Those who have these certifications will be put through more Apparatus Drills, Emergency Communications (EM COMM) training, medical refreshers, and more!

Stay tuned for updates!
