The Stoutland Volunteer Fire Department is pleased to announce Fire Chief James Vaughn has been appointed Emergency Management Director for the City of Stoutland! Congratulations, Chief!
What does this mean?
Since the City of Stoutland is promulgated to Camden County for large-scale emergencies (meaning they agree to use the Camden County, MO Emergency Management Agency and its Local Emergency Operations Plan), Chief Vaughn will continue to provide communications about the state of the city to the Camden County EMA and work with Camden County for any disaster declarations which may bring reimbursement money back to the city after cleanup has concluded. This will also allow the Chief access to specialized training and resources to help the residents of the City of Stoutland.
For more information on the position and duties of an EMD, please visit the Camden County EMA’s webpage.
Why the fire chief?
Because of the nature of large-scale emergencies, first responder chiefs are often asked to serve as the EMDs of cities (i.e. The EMD for Osage Beach is Osage Beach Police Chief Todd Davis and the EMD for the City of Richland is Fire Chief Russell Hobbs). Their experience dealing with emergency personnel and equipment while ensuring public safety during crisis is key to providing effective communication and response in dealing with large-scale emergencies.
Chief Vaughn has been in the fire service for 17 years and has been the Fire Chief of Sleeper and Stoutland Volunteer Fire Departments for six years. He has already established a connection with the Camden County EMA, bringing much needed resources to the departments to serve the residents and visitors of his district better for the past year and a half.
How do we contact Chief Vaughn with questions?
Chief Vaughn works full time for Lebanon Fire Department, so it is best to communicate any questions to him via his email stoutlandchief@yahoo.com (though he will soon set up an email for the Stoutland EMD position and we will place it here), however you can contact him on his cell phone at 417-288-1387. Please leave a message and he will return your call as soon as he can.
Can you put up a page here on the department’s website with information and updates from the city’s new EMD?
Absolutely. You can click on City of Stoutland EMA for updates! It is a new page, so it will take a bit to add much-needed information to it, but bear with us while we begin to build this resource for you!
Can we meet the Chief if we haven’t yet?
Sure! Chief Vaughn is happy to meet with anyone in his districts. Please contact him via email or phone to arrange a meeting. Alternately, you can visit Stoutland Fire Station at 25 Firehouse Rd here in Stoutland on the first and/or third Saturdays of each month between 8 am and noon during our duty crews. If he is not working, he will be here!
