Many people don’t understand just how many calls our small departments run.
We are not taxed-based; we are dues-based. What this means is that we rely on the residents of our districts to pay their dues in order to help keep our departments running.
Our firefighters, officers, and EVEN OUR CHIEF are completely unpaid. They are 100% volunteer.
We also have a small amount of money we receive from CDT (County Department Tax). Sleeper and Stoutland each receive approximately $6000.00 annually.
We also rely on fundraisers and other methods of gaining a small amount of donations (such as providing first response for area race tracks) just to keep the trucks on the road, pay the insurance, and maintain the stations. We average $150 per race day we provide service for of which we have an average of 15 and we average about $300 per fundraiser of which we have three or four per year.
We struggle with getting gear, as the cost of turnouts runs approximately $18,000 per set. (see newscast here)
But we keep answering the call. We are there for YOU.
With all of that said, we have a new page on our site called Call Statistics. It shows our In-District versus Mutual Aid calls. So far, we have loaded 2023 to date and we will soon begin back tracking to add more history of calls for our departments.
We hope you will consider paying your dues if you are a resident or consider donating if you stumble across our page or come visit our districts!
